Nathan Hall is a composer and artist currently on a Fulbright Fellowship in Iceland.
Born and raised in Western New York, I attended Vassar College, studying music composition with Richard Wilson. After Vassar, I worked in several art galleries in upstate New York and Boston.
As a Master's student at Carnegie-Mellon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I studied with Nancy Galbraith and Reza Vali. I have had my works played by the Carnegie-Mellon Contemporary Ensemble, the New School of Music (Cambridge, MA), the Erie Saxophone Quartet, and Alia Musica Pittsburgh. My work for orchestra, Lake Myvatn, was read by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in Spring 2008. My first sound-sculpture was exhibited at Pittsburgh's SPACE gallery in Winter 2009. I also have released a duo album of compositions and collaborations with Pittsburgh-based musician David Bernabo.
Feel free to email me on my 'contact' page regarding commissions, public performances of my works, and purchasing scores. I also arrange music for various ensembles and choirs, and offer music transcription services. All scores and parts are available in printed form, PDF, or Finale notational files.
My music continues to be tonal, rhythmic, jazz- and pop-influenced and often minimalist, but has expanded to include textural writing, site-specific performances, and collaborations with other artists and musicians. The natural world, the emotions elicited from landscapes and weather patterns, and inspiration from the fine arts (poetry and painting in particular) have had a profound impact on my work thus far.
